Environment Preservation

Climate change is considered as one of the most serious threats to sustainable development globally. Studies have shown that about 90% of the natural disasters afflicting the world are related to severe weather and extreme climate change events.

It is evident that climate change is a threat to development both nationally and globally. Africa as a continent is the most vulnerable to climate variability and change, a situation which is compounded by the interaction between multiple constraints including heavy dependence on agriculture, widespread poverty and low capacity to adaptation. Climate change often manifests changes in weather and other extreme consequences, often causing adverse effects on human health, biodiversity and natural ecosystems, serious environmental, social and economic impacts. These represent a real challenge for indigenous populations and the socio-economic development prospects of the marginalized, with women and girls, who not only suffer the effects of environmental damage, but also oppression and acts of violence, which intersect in their respective situations.

It is from this backbone WAN Foundations in collaboration with other partners who have the passion in conserving, restoring and protection our environment, works together in building the capacity of the vulnerable communities through various inventions which are: recommendations on relevant policies, institutional framework, awareness creation for communities living along the depleted ecosystems such as rivers, forests, wetlands among others on environmental conservation, climate change adaptation measures and natural resource management and resource mobilization.

WAN Foundation builds their capacity:

  • On climate change adaptation measures and climate resilience solutions,

  • Guide in formation of community-based conservation groups that helps in advocating for climate adaptation actions in respective communities.

  • Formation of community conservation groups in charge of recruiting volunteers in target villages to support environmental conservation education and outreach efforts while enhancing community participation in management and protection of natural resources and restoration of biodiversity.

  • Establishment of environmental education programmes in learning institutions
